Introducing “Jacana”

This big earthy toned beauty is finished … what a pleasure she has been to paint.

Inspired by the unforgiving landscape of Northern Australia. The outback, ochre deserts, spectacular skies, surreal rocky outcrops and towering deep sprawling canyons…the tropical north with yellow watering holes and sepia rivers.

The Jacana bird aka the Jesus bird, is pictured as a speck amongst this vast landscape with her long spindly legs and her ability to walk on water…lily pads.

Laying down the first foundations of avocado pigment set the tone for this acrylic based palette and the rest flowed from there.
I’ve longed desired to paint an earthy beauty although I often start off strong and get distracted along the way. So I’m pleased that I managed to stay on track and I’m so happy with the outcome of this big girl.
